The Hamta Pass – Chandratal Lake Trek is a stunning high-altitude adventure that takes you from the
lush green valleys of Kullu to the stark, arid landscapes of Lahaul. Beginning in Manali, the trail passes
through walnut and spruce forests, alpine meadows, and scenic mountain streams, gradually rising to the
dramatic Hamta Pass at 4,270 meters. Along the way, trekkers are treated to breathtaking views of snow-
clad peaks, unique rock formations, and the majestic Pir Panjal and CB ranges.
Ideal for moderately fit adventurers, this trek offers a rich variety of terrains—from grassy slopes and
glacial valleys to rugged moraines. As you descend into the Chandra Valley, the scenery transforms into a
stark yet captivating Himalayan desert. The journey culminates at Chandratal Lake, a moon-shaped
alpine jewel nestled amidst towering peaks. Adorned with summer blooms and frequented by migratory
birds, the lake offers mesmerizing reflections and vistas, including views of the Samundra Tapu glacier.
With its ethereal beauty and serene isolation, Chandratal remains one of the Himalayas’ most magical
destinations
